In this class it is expected that students will do the following:

  1. Spend adequate time outside class on Math 6080. You should expect to spend at least 2-3 hours outside class for each 50 minutes in class. Often more than 3 hours is required to learn the material.
  2. Read all assigned sections in the text and do all other assigned material.
  3. Attempt all assigned homework problems.
  4. All written assignments will be done through a dropbox in elearning. Submit all written assignments as a single PDF file containing the solutions to all of the assigned problems. The problems must be legible and in order of section and the numerical order, e.g. section 2.1 problem 1, section 2.1 problem 5, section 2.2 problem 2,... Your name must be in the name of the file. All pages in your PDF must be the same size. If a signed statement is required for the assignment it is to be the first page of your submission with a written, not typed, signature. Do not submit a zip file. Your name must be in the name of the file. Make certain that you have clicked the submit button for the dropbox in e-learning.
  5. Submit all Maple assignments as a single *.mw worksheet containing the solutions to all of the assigned problems. Each problem must be contained in a collapsible section with the problem number as the heading for the section. The problems must be in in numerical order, e.g. 1, 2,... Remove all output before submitting you worksheet, [ctrl]+D. Do not submit a zip file.
  6. Know what happens in class every day.
  7. Ask and answer questions in class.
  8. Read all comments on corrected papers.
  9. Use pencil on all exams.

 

Expectations of the instructor:

  1. Make expectations clear.
  2. Give and use a reasonable grading policy.
  3. Get exams and homework back in a reasonable amount of time.
  4. Be available to help students.
  5. Allow student feedback, assessment, on the class throughout the semester.
  6. Set a level of expectation that is adequate to prepare students for future classes. This needs to be attainable for students who are prepared for Math 6080.
  7. Give students direction on what material must be learned.
